A few Dahlonega shops make what they sell on the premises, and at least one puts the making on show every day. This is the list of places where something is made, demonstrated or done to order, using only what each shop says on its own site. Where a shop says it makes things but does not say you can watch, we tell you that too.
Glassblowing you can watch: The Glassblowing Shop
The clearest answer in town. The Glassblowing Shop says it holds daily “flame-work” glassblowing demonstrations. A fourth-generation glassblower opened it in 1998, on the historic square just across from the Gold Museum; its address is 10 South Chestatee Street, Unit F. The shop sells what comes out of the flame: icicles, barometers, glass pendants, suncatchers, wind chimes, wine stoppers and names written in glass.
The site does not publish demonstration times, and the shop’s hours come only from the DDA directory, so call (706) 864-9022 to ask when the next demo is. It is a good rainy-day stop and a good one for kids.

- hand-blown glass gifts · icicles and barometers · glass pendants · personalized names in glass · suncatchers and windchimes · wedding cake tops
- Not on its own site; the DDA directory lists Mon-Thu 10 am-5 pm, Fri-Sun 10 am-6 pm

Candy made in the store
Kilwins, south side of the Square
Kilwins Dahlonega says it hand-crafts its Mackinac Island Fudge in the store, cooked in copper kettles, hand-paddled and cooled on marble tables. Its page also says fudge, caramel corn, brittle and caramel apples are made in the store, and that it is happy to give complimentary samples. It publishes hours on its own page, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Paul Thomas Chocolates, north side of the Square
Paul Thomas Chocolates says about 90% of what it offers is made by the shop on location, handcrafted in small batches. One honest caveat: its pages do not say you can watch the making. A search summary we saw said you could, but we could not find that on the shop’s own page, so ask at the counter.
The Dahlonega Fudge Factory, North Park and Main
The Fudge Factory has made hand-dipped chocolates, confections and cream-and-butter fudge since 1982, including its own Dahlonega Nuggets, pecans in homemade caramel dipped in chocolate. Its site does not describe a viewing window, and it gives only seasonal winter hours, so check before a special trip.
Mixed and roasted on site
- The Spice & Tea Exchange, 19 East Main: says it hand-mixes its more than 85 house seasonings in the store daily, per Spice & Tea Exchange.
- Dahlonega General Store, south side of the Square: roasts peanuts daily and sells coffee for a nickel a cup, per its history page.
- Tea Rabbit’s, South Chestatee Street: lists all-natural blended teas, homemade chocolates and custom roasted coffee on its own site.
Make something yourself: Old Storehouse Art
At Old Storehouse Art (formerly Canvas and Cork), in the historic Stanton Storehouse across from Hancock Park on North Meaders Street, you do the making. You can drop in during business hours, pick a project and paint, with no reservation needed, per Old Storehouse Art. It also runs classes and private art parties and shows work by local artists, and it says it can ship most artwork. Its own site lists Wednesday and Thursday noon to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 8 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.; Monday and Tuesday are not listed.
Old Storehouse Art is also where the Dahlonega Arts Alliance meets, monthly on second Wednesdays at 6 p.m., per its Arts Alliance page, if you want to meet local artists rather than just their work.
Pan for it yourself: Crisson Gold Mine
A short drive out of downtown (its site does not give a distance), Crisson Gold Mine offers gold panning and gem mining alongside its rock and mineral shop. It lists 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, rain or shine, so it is one of the few hands-on stops that publishes hours for every day.
Made to order
- Vickie Lynn’s Gifts, Public Square North: custom embroidery in any name and color, and it ships, per its Facebook page.
- Cranberry Corners, North Park Street: makes custom gift baskets to order by phone, per Cranberry Corners.
- Reclaimed Rose, North Grove Street: furniture refinishing and restoration, per Reclaimed Rose.
- Vintage Music, Public Square South: besides buying and selling instruments, it teaches lessons, does repairs and runs a small recording studio, per Vintage Music.
Pottery: call first
Brad Walker Pottery is listed by the Visitors Bureau as a pottery studio at 70 North Public Square. It has no website, and nothing we found says whether visitors can watch work in progress, so call (706) 864-7130 before you plan around it. Our galleries and pottery guide covers the rest of the art on the Square.
Craft in a festival weekend
If you want to meet makers in numbers, the next big date we can confirm is Bear on the Square, Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18, 2027, per Bear on the Square. It is a free Appalachian music festival with a juried marketplace of more than 70 booths around the Square selling textiles, pottery, woodworking and other traditional crafts. Gold Rush Days, with more than 300 art, craft and food vendors, was held October 17 and 18, 2026; its 2027 date is not yet published.
Plan it
The glassblowing demos and the candy kitchens are the strongest bets with children; our kids and pets guide has the toy shops nearby. For the fudge and chocolate shops in full, see fudge, chocolate and food shops.
