Dahlonega’s outfitters downtown are a fly-fishing shop on North Grove Street, an outdoor apparel and gear shop on North Park Street and a bike shop that now works by appointment. For full backpacking gear, the Appalachian Trail outfitter Mountain Crossings is a drive away at Neel Gap. Here is what each source says, with hours only as published, checked October 19, 2026.
Downtown outfitters
Bowman Outdoors / Bowman Fly Fishing
Bowman is at 22 North Grove Street. The Dahlonega DDA directory describes it this way: “Located in downtown Dahlonega, Ga we are a full service Fly Shop and Outdoors Store.” Its own site focuses on guided fly fishing trips, wade and drift boat, and says it has guided out of Dahlonega since 2014. So if you want to browse flies and gear, call first to check what is in the shop; if you want a guide, start with its site.
Hours from the business’s own site data: Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. No Sunday hours are listed.
Woodlands Edge
Woodlands Edge is at 36 North Park Street. Its DDA listing calls it “North Georgia’s outdoor outfitter featuring a wide selection of apparel + gear by Patagonia, Columbia, Kavu, Chaco, Costa + more.” Its own website no longer loads, so it is known from the directory only. The DDA lists it as closed on Tuesday, but those directory hours are undated and not confirmed by the shop. Call ahead.
Nimblewheels Bicycles
Nimblewheels is Dahlonega’s family-owned bike shop, at 582 North Grove Street, Suite A. Its own site says it has cut regular in-store hours and is now “OPEN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY,” with some open-house days each month. It handles bicycle service and tune-ups and carries essential ride items. The DDA directory still shows regular weekday hours, which the shop’s own notice replaces. Book before you go.
Nimblewheels Bicycles has moved to appointment-only service with occasional open-house days. (Nimblewheels Bicycles, checked Oct 19, 2026)
Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap: a drive, not a walk
Mountain Crossings is the Appalachian Trail outfitter in the stone Walasi-Yi Interpretive Center at Neel Gap, on US 19/129 in Union County. Its site says the building has stood there “since both trail and building were completed in 1937.” It sells backpacking gear (tents, backpacks and sleeping pads), hiker food, boots and socks, Appalachian Trail patches and stickers, books and maps, and pottery. It says all its employees are former thru-hikers with an extensive knowledge of the North Georgia area.
Hours on its own site: Monday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is outside Dahlonega, and its site does not give a distance from town, so check your map app for the drive before you plan the day around it.
Mountain Crossings occupies the stone Walasi-Yi Interpretive Center at Neel Gap, built in 1937 along with the Appalachian Trail. (Mountain Crossings, checked Oct 19, 2026)

Gifts for hikers and anglers
For a small take-home gift, Mountain Crossings lists Appalachian Trail patches and stickers, books and maps, and pottery. In town, Woodlands Edge’s DDA listing names apparel brands, and the Visitors Bureau directory gives the same 36 North Park Street address. For an angler, a guided trip with Bowman is the thing its own site sells; ask the shop about gift options, since its site does not list any.
Planning an outdoor day
- On a Sunday, Mountain Crossings is the only shop on this page with published Sunday hours. Bowman lists none, Nimblewheels is by appointment, and Woodlands Edge’s hours are directory-only.
- Bowman’s published day starts at 8 a.m. See the shop hours table for every shop by day.
- Parking on and around the Public Square is free, per the Dahlonega DDA; all-day lots are on our parking page.
- Shopping for a hiker or angler back home? The Gift Finder matches shops to the person you are buying for, using only what each shop’s own page says.
For a whole day in town, the Shopping Day Planner builds a route from the shops open when you are there.
