Dahlonega’s toy store is Giggle Monkey Toys on Public Square North, and Local Pup, a pet boutique, is on the same side of the Square. Add old-fashioned toys at the General Store, retro games on Memorial Drive and daily glassblowing demonstrations kids can watch. Here is what each shop’s own source says, checked October 19, 2026.
Toy shops
Giggle Monkey Toys
Giggle Monkey Toys is at 104 Public Square North. Its own site calls it “the place to find quality toys, games, puzzles, and books for kids of all ages.” It was founded in October 2011 and the current owners reopened it on August 15, 2014. Hours from its site: Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday noon to 6 p.m. So it publishes hours for every day of the week.
Dahlonega General Store
The General Store at 24 Public Square South is not a toy shop, but kids head straight for it. Its history page lists “old-fashioned candy, marbles by the pound, wooden yo-yos, train whistles and other toys.” It also sells 5-cent coffee for the grown-ups.
Games Replayed
For older kids and teens, Games Replayed at 77 Memorial Drive is listed by the Visitors Bureau for classic video games, vintage consoles, toys from decades past and LEGO. It publishes no hours online, so call ahead.
Cranberry Corners
Cranberry Corners at 44 North Park Street is a gift shop, and its own site lists Ty plush toys and collegiate puzzles among its stock.
Things kids can watch
- Glassblowing: The Glassblowing Shop at 10 South Chestatee Street says it has “daily ‘flame-work’ glassblowing demonstrations” (its site). It does not publish demo times.
- Fudge: Kilwins Dahlonega at 40 Public Square South says it makes its fudge in the store, “cooked in copper kettles, hand-paddled and cooled on marble tables,” and is “always happy to offer complimentary samples.”
- Bronze bears: Bears Around the Square is a free self-guided walking tour from the Dahlonega DDA: find 10 small bronze bear statues around the downtown square, each representing a figure from Dahlonega’s past.

A gold-mine shop outside town
Crisson Gold Mine, at 2736 Morrison Moore Parkway East, is a drive from downtown; its site does not give a distance. It describes “the largest rock and mineral shop in North Georgia,” a gift shop and a jewelry store, and offers gold panning and gem mining. Its site says it is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine, and on all major holidays except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Kids’ clothing
As of October 19, 2026 we could not confirm a children’s clothing shop open downtown. Shops named in older directories are in the closed, moved or not confirmed section of our shop directory. For tees and souvenirs, see boutiques and clothing.
For the dog (and the dog owner)
Local Pup
Local Pup at 98 Public Square North is a locally owned pet boutique. Its site lists dog treats and bones, dog food, puzzles and enrichment toys, harnesses, collars and leashes, pet apparel, a few cat items and apparel for humans. Its Our Store page says it is in the John H. Moore and Son Building, built in the 1800s as a bank, and the vault that stored Dahlonega gold is still there. Hours on its own site: daily, noon to 6 p.m.
Other dog notes, only where a source says so
- Outlaw House of Jerky at 19-A East Main Street lists dog jerky alongside its jerky for people.
- Naturally Georgia, the wine tasting room at 90 Public Square North, says it is pet friendly for well-behaved pets.
- At the Gold Museum, Georgia State Parks says leashed pets are allowed on historic site trails but not in buildings.
We have not found a published pet policy for the other shops, so ask at the door.
