Dahlonega has one independent bookstore, Bear Book Market, plus the University of North Georgia’s campus bookstore downtown. Vintage Music on the Square sells folk instruments and vintage guitars, and for games there is a toy store on the Square and a retro games shop on Memorial Drive. Here is what each one’s own source says, with hours only as published, checked October 19, 2026.
Bookstores
Bear Book Market
Bear Book Market sells new and used books. Its own site gives the address as 85 East Main Street. The Visitors Bureau directory still lists it at 21 North Grove Street, so the two sources disagree. We use the shop’s own address, but call before you go if you are making a special trip.
Hours on its own site: Monday and Tuesday 12:30 to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday 12:30 to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday 12:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday is not listed, so do not count on a Wednesday visit. The shop also hosts open readings for local writers; its events page says to sign up by email or on social media.
UNG Bookstore (Nighthawk Shop)
The University of North Georgia’s Dahlonega campus bookstore is at 110 South Chestatee Street, Suite 200. UNG says Barnes & Noble College runs its bookstores, and the store carries course materials and UNG merchandise. It is the stop for UNG merchandise. Hours from ung.edu: Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The DDA directory shows different hours, so we go with the university’s page.
The Visitors Bureau says the free Dahlonega Literary Festival is held every year in early March. Check shopping events for dates once they are published.
Music
Vintage Music
Vintage Music is at 42 Public Square South. Its site says, “For over 30 years, we have been specializing in folk instruments and vintage guitars from our location on the public square.” It sells new and vintage guitars, fiddles, banjos, mandolins and dulcimers, and its second site adds that it teaches music lessons and does instrument repairs. It also has a small recording studio.
Hours are the tricky part. Its two websites and the DDA directory publish three different schedules. vintagemusic.com says Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday by appointment. guitarauction.com says Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 12:30 to 4 p.m. The DDA lists Monday as closed. All three agree on Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. So plan on those days, and call ahead on a Sunday or Monday.

Dahlonega Rocks
Dahlonega Rocks is at 10 South Chestatee Street, Suite E. Its DDA listing calls it “your home for everything Rock N Roll from tee shirts to posters, hats and more.” It has no website and is known from the directory only, so call ahead.
For live music while you shop, the Visitors Bureau says Saturday-afternoon Appalachian Jams are held in front of the Gold Museum on the Square.
Games and puzzles
Games Replayed
Games Replayed is at 77 Memorial Drive, off the Square. Its Visitors Bureau listing says, “We specialize in classic video games, vintage consoles, and beloved toys from decades past,” including LEGO from across the decades, plus action figures and board games. It publishes no hours online, so call before you go.
Giggle Monkey Toys
For board games and puzzles on the Square, Giggle Monkey Toys at 104 Public Square North carries “quality toys, games, puzzles, and books for kids of all ages.” Its own site lists hours seven days a week. More on it is on our kids and pets page.
Books and maps for the trail
If your trip heads to the Appalachian Trail, Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap sells books and maps along with its backpacking gear. It is a drive from town, covered on our outdoor shops page.
